Our adventure kicked off in Hanoi, Vietnam’s buzzing capital, and it was the perfect place to start our journey. Hanoi’s a mix of old-school charm and modern energy, with history on every corner. First things first, we needed some Pho (obviously), and let’s just say it didn’t disappoint. Seriously, this is the spot to get your noodle fix.
After slurping up some delicious Pho, we wandered over to St. Joseph’s Cathedral. Built in the 1850s by the French, it’s an awesome slice of history in the middle of a crazy vibrant city. Then, we dove headfirst into Hanoi’s coffee scene (because who can resist?), and trust us, it’s totally worth the hype.
But the real fun was visiting Train Street. Imagine this – cafes and homes squeezed along a tiny train track. The trains pass through just a few times a day, and when they do, the whole street goes wild. It’s become a bit touristy, but it’s one of those things you’ve got to see.
Ha Long Bay: A Seascape Like No Other
Next stop – Ha Long Bay. You’ve probably seen photos of it, and yep, it’s every bit as magical in person. Over 1,600 islands and islets make up this jaw-dropping bay, and we couldn’t resist spending a night on a boat just floating around. We woke up to the most peaceful views ever, and the food? Absolutely incredible.
One morning, we even joined a Tai Chi class on deck (don’t worry, we weren’t pros). Afterward, we visited a floating fishing village, where we got a glimpse of how locals live on the water. It’s one of those places that’s hard to describe – you just have to experience it for yourself.
Hoi An: The Hidden Gem We Can’t Stop Raving About

From Hoi An, we made our way to Hue, the old imperial capital of Vietnam. This city is like a living history book, with its massive Imperial City and royal tombs of past emperors. We wandered through the Imperial City, amazed by the grandeur, and then visited some of the royal tombs (our favorites were those of Emperor Minh Mang and Khai Dinh). It’s a place where history feels alive.
But Hue is also modern and chill. We took a break in one of the city’s cozy cafes to sip on some Vietnamese coffee (no eggs this time) and just soaked in the vibe. It’s the perfect mix of old and new.
Ho Chi Minh City: The Modern Pulse of Vietnam
Our final stop – Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). Talk about a shock to the system after the calm of Hoi An and Hue. With over 7 million motorbikes zipping around, crossing the street here is a mini adventure in itself. But once you get into the rhythm of the city, you’ll find a place that’s full of life.
The city doesn’t sleep – there are neon lights, buzzing streets, and street food that you can’t miss. A standout was the Secret Garden restaurant – a hidden rooftop gem that serves up the best Vietnamese dishes. The prices are crazy affordable, and the food is delicious (it’s all under $15!).
